Mike Jenkins is a professional and nationally recognized guiding expert with over 35 years of North American big game hunting experience. He is widely known for being a Rocky Mountain and Roosevelt Elk specialist and has extensive guiding experience ranging from Washington State to New Mexico.
Mike is a native of Washington State and grew up fishing for salmon, steelhead and trout in the coastal mountain streams of the Pacific Northwest. Born into an outdoor family, he has a passion for nature and was hunting Roosevelt Elk and Blacktail Deer at an early age.
After graduating high school Mike moved to remote S.E. Alaska where he spent the next 12 years working in the logging industry while raising his children. It was during this time that he learned to live a semi-subsistence lifestyle and began pursuing his outdoor dreams.
Wanting to pursue his passion for elk hunting, Mike left Alaska in 1996 and started guiding elk hunts in S.W. Montana, eventually expanding to New Mexico and Arizona in 2000. In 2006, he started Upfront Outfitters. This was an opportunity for him to focus on successfully hunting trophy bulls in New Mexico’s famous Gila and Cibola National Forest.
Mike is widely respected for his ability to successfully hunt several big game species throughout the Western United States. He has the qualifications to educate the public on many big game hunting and outdoors related topics. He currently spends more that 180 plus days each year scouting and hunting big game in Western Oregon and Washington state. It was his passion for the outdoors that lead him to pursue a career in the hunting industry where he continues to further his knowledge with time spent in the field.
Recognizing that some hunters need to gain skills to improve success, Mike started Northwest School for Hunters in 2016. This allows him to share his passion and knowledge for hunting and teach hunters, new and old, skills that shorten the learning curve and help to increase success.
